Gabrielle is a renowned bonemender, or healer, in the kingdom of Verdeau. When a stranger, the elf Féolan, brings his injured friend, Danaïs, to her for help, Gabrielle’s world suddenly expands. She learns about the elves’ lives and peaceful community. As Danaïs heals, Féolan and Gabrielle fall in love and despair that their life spans (one a long elf life and the other a shorter human one) are not comparable. The relationship gets placed on hold while the elves and humans engage in a battle to defeat the Greffaires. The intersection of cultures permits Gabrielle to learn more about her past, and she soon discovers that she is, in fact, half elf, leading to a wonderfully touching romance at the end . nrz
