Book Description

for The Lizard Man of Crabtree County by Lucy A. Nolan and Jill Kastner

James becomes the unwitting source of wild rumors that a Lizard Man has appeared in his quiet rural community. Poor James Arthur is bored to tears. Nothing exciting ever happens in Crabtree County. Well, at least, not since that squash that looked like Abraham Lincoln! Growing desperate, he tries disguising himself as a shrub. With any luck, a bird might land on his head. At the end of a long day spent plastered in leaves, however, he still has nothing to show for his efforts. Nothing, that is, but a lot of bugs that he has to rinse away in Miss Bunch's pond. If that isn't bad enough, he learns that a giant Lizard Man has been spotted in the same area where he's been making like a bush! It's no surprise to poor James Arthur with his luck that he saw nothing. And that's just the beginning of all the excitement that strangely passes him by -- and each time only by minutes! A young boy, who dresses up as a bush, causes a commotion when he is mistaken for the Lizard Man.
