Uma Krishnaswami: Hello, my name is Uma Krishnaswami. I was born in India, and so, of course, I have an Indian name. My first name, Uma, is the name of a Goddess from Hindi mythology. Krishnaswami is really two words run together, Krishna and swami, which makes it easier to remember and pronounce.

The thing to keep in mind about Indian names is that they're almost always pronounced very much the way they're spelt. So there are no hidden sounds waiting to trip you up anywhere in my name. Some of my books are set in India, or have characters from India, with names like Maya, and Anu, and Mira.
