Michael Northrop: Hello. My name is Michael Northrop. Northrop is not a very complicated name, but it has one trick. It is spelled N-O-R-T-H-R-O-P, but it's pronounced as if it were spelled R-U-P. And so, the people who pronounce my name correctly often spell it wrong, and the people who spell my name correctly often pronounce it wrong. The origin of it, apparently, comes from Northern Farm. North has meant the direction north for a long time, and Throp used to mean farm. Seems like the further north you go, the colder it gets, and the colder it gets, the worse the farming is. So, basically, my name means Bad Place For A Farm. It's Michael Northrop, Bad Place For A Farm, which is fine, because I suspect I'd be a bad farmer.
