John Lewis: I am John Lewis. So, two uncles thought that I should be named John Robert.

They love the idea of being named John. One wanted me to be named Robert, so they put the two names together and named me John Robert.

When my mother would become somewhat upset with me, she would say, "John Robert," and I knew to respond. I knew she was upset. When I first met Doctor King, he called me the boy from Troy, the boy from Troy, Alabama. I said to Dr. King, I am John Robert Lewis.
