Tochi Onyebuchi: Hi. My name is Tochi Onyebuchi. Tochi, in Igbo, the language of my tribe in Nigeria, means praise God. A funny story, though, is that it's also a unisex name. So my mom, before I was born, didn't know, actually, if I was going to be a boy or a girl, and so she figured better err on the efficient side and cover all her bases. Growing up, particularly, in majority white environment, the schools that I went to, the church we attended, the neighborhoods I grew up in, I would often joke with people around me, with friends, that I was probably the only Tochi they would ever meet in their lives. Then, I get to law school, and in the very first week, I meet another Tochi, and so I can't use that joke anymore, and on top of that, this Tochi was a girl. So, there you go.
