Gloria Amescua: Hello, my name is Gloria Amescua. The C-U-A is pronounced like Q-U-A, qwah, ah-MESS-qwah. It's a Basque name, and though I'm only 1% Basque, it's a name that was carried to Mexico long ago to my father and then to me. My father changed A-M-E-Z-C-U-A from a Z to an S to make it easier to pronounce, but that only helped a little. The Basque people live in Northern Spain and Southern France.
