Diane Goode: Hi. My name is Diane Goode G-O-O-D-E. It's pronounced good.
There's a little story behind my name. When my husband's grandfather came to America by way of the Ukraine, the ship's officer asked him his name. Gusman, he said. Gusmein? The officer couldn't pronounce it and the grandfather didn't speak English, so he wrote down goose G-O-O-S-E.
Well, the grandfather had two sons and they were teased so much at school that they begged their father to have the name legally changed. He told the judge his story and the judge said to him, "Well sir, I'd like to help you, but since you don't have any money, I can only change one letter. I can change the S to a D", and he did.
So that's how the name was changed from Goose to Goode. Can you beat that? It's a true story, or at least I think it is. Hey, I couldn't make up a story that good.
