Maribeth Boelts: Hi, my name is Maribeth Boelts. When I was a kid growing up, there were girls in my class named Mary Pat, Mary Jane, Mary Jo. And, so, I decided to try and be a little bit more original, and I took off the Beth of my name and became Mari. And, then, a while after that, I became Beth. And, eventually, I went by Maribeth, but I changed the spelling, M-A-R-I-B-E-T-H, all one word. My mother told me later that she had considered naming me Rose, and I'm really glad she didn't name me Rose, because Rose Boelts, my married name sounds an awful lot like a championship football game that's held every year. Names are very important to me. I love to name characters and sometimes the name will actually come first. I'll hear a name and I think, "I have to write a story around that."
