James Ransome: Hello. My name's James Ransome. My name comes from General Matt and Patty Ransom, who owned Verona Plantation. They owned slaves on that plantation, and my ancestors were enslaved there. General Matt Ransom was a general in the Confederate Army, and when he married Patty Ransom, she was given slaves as a wedding gift, and that's where my ancestors can be traced back to. I'm very proud of the name, proud of those slaves who lived on that plantation and went on to do many wonderful things, through the children they had and fighting for their freedom, and eventually continued to stay in that area for a short time, then migrating north, like my parents did, and we have a reunion every year. We go back to that area, and there is always dialogue about the plantation where we came from.
