Robie H. Harris: Hi, my name is Robie Harris. Some people call me Rosie. Some people call me Ruby. Some people call me Robbie. But I only answer to Robie.

When I was born, my name was Roberta. And I was called Roberta until age three. And until age 28, I thought my brother had named me Robie, because he couldn't pronounce Roberta.

And I was standing at a party, and someone said, "How did you get the name Robie?" And I told that story about my brother. And my father and brother said, "That's absolutely not true. When you were three and a half, you marched in, and you said, 'My name is Robie. I wanna be called Robie.'"

So apparently I was very, very insistent. And finally they stopped calling me Roberta, and they called me Robie. And that's how I got my name.

I like the fact that, in some ways, I got to name myself.
