M.H. Herlong: Hello, my name is M. H. Herlong. The M stands for Madaline, which is spelled in a bit of an unusual way. It's spelled M-A-D-A-L-I-N-E.

The H stands for Herlong, which is my last name also. So my writing name, M. H. Herlong, is my initials plus my last name.

Herlong is a name that originated in Belgium as Herland, although I imagine the Flemish pronounce it differently.

The funniest thing that ever happened with that name, though, was when my father got a letter addressed not to "Mr. Herlong," but to "Mr. His-short."

Fortunately, we lived in such as small town, that the postman knew exactly who the letter was for.
