Monika Schröder: Hello. My name is Monika Schröder.

I was born in Germany so my first name, Monika, is spelled with a K. There are also two dots over the O in my last name, Schröder. Those two dots show I'm German, but the O is pronounced like an er. We call this an umlaut.

Now, there are no umlauts on an American computer keyboard, so if you want to type an er on your PC, you need to hold down the Alt button, and then the number 1, 2, and 4.

But in the English spelling, the er also turns into OE so you can also spell my last name S-C-H-R-O-E-D-E-R.
