Marianne Malone: Hello. My name is Marianne Malone. You probably know that Malone is an Irish name. That's on my father's side. My mother's side was mostly English and German. I spell my name as one word with Mary and Anne being connected by the letter I. On my birth certificate my name is Mary with Anne being my middle name. My mother's name though was also Mary and until kindergarten I was called Little Mary. But by that point, I had enough of that, so when my teacher asked if I preferred Mary or Mary Anne, I happily replied Mary Anne. But over the next few years, I discovered that people still tended to see the name spelled with a space in between and they called me Mary. In third grade, my lovely teacher suggest the French spelling, all one word, and I loved that, so that seemed to do the trick and I'm rarely called Mary.
