Raquel M. Ortiz: My name is Raquel M. Ortiz. There's a great story behind my name. I'm the first born of four children, and my father, Juan Roque, and my mother, Sonia Margarita, wanted to give me a name to celebrate their first joint project. So, my father took his middle name, Roque, changed the O to an A and added an L, and we got Raquel, or Raquel. My mother took Margarita and she made it Margarite, so she changed it to the French version of her name. So, there you go. Raquel Margarite Ortiz.

Also, my nickname has a fun story, too. My brothers used to tease me and they would use my name in English, that's Rachel, and she would call me Rach for short. So, now I don't mind it too much, but when I was a little girl, it would make a little bit upset, and I would say, "No, no. My name is Raquel," and they would say, "Rach."

So, today I happily embrace the Spanish pronunciation of my name, Raquel, and I also acknowledge that it's Rachel in English, and in many different countries, we have many different ways to pronounce my name.
