Phuoc Thi Minh Tran: Hello. My name is Tran Thi Minh Phuoc. Tran is my family name, or last name. My middle name is Thi Minh. And Phuoc, spelled P-H-U-O-C, is my first name, which is often misspelled as P-H-O-U-C, and pronounced in many interesting ways. Such as Pho, which means in Vietnamese, beef noodle soup. Fuh, like a fox. Or even Foo, like crazy in French. Also my name has caused trouble because of its similarity of a swear word, but no worries. The last consonant of a word in Vietnamese, is always silent. The Ph- digraph make an F-sound, as it does in English word.
In Vietnam, children are given odd nicknames, so they seem unwanted, and won't be took away by spirits. Phuoc, my first name, which means lucky. But at home, I am called mười, which mean number ten.
