Lisl H. Detlefsen: Hello. My name is Lisl Detlefsen. I have a very old German first name, Lisl. It gets spelled wrong and pronounced wrong a lot, and people think it must be really Lisa, because it looks just like Lisa, except it has an L at the end instead of the A.

The story of my name is, when my mom was expecting me, my family was planning on naming me Amanda, which was a very popular name at the time, and then they saw the old musical, "The Sound of Music" with Julie Andrews, and they loved the name Lisl, and they loved that it was a German name and fit in with our German background, and so I got the name Lisl.

Now, I've married a Danish man whose last name is Detlefsen. So now I have a name that's confusing to people, because there's lots of Es in my last name and no Es in my first name.
