Gillian French: Hi. My name is Gillian French. My first name is pronounced with a soft g sound, which creates the same sound as a j. And almost nobody gets it right on the first try. I've been called GILL-e-an, GUY-lan, Gilligan. Even when I spell out the name on a form, people still sometimes automatically change the first letter to a j. That spelling of Gillian is just a lot more common in America. But I've read that in England, Gillian with a g is a very common name. It's more like Jennifer or Melissa or Sarah. So just pretend you're in England and say Gillian.
