It translates to 'place in the dells.' My ancestors came from Hillestad, Norway. I was happy to take my husband's last name, Butler, because it's much easier to say and spell, but when it came time to choose what name I wanted to write under, I didn't want to drop Hillestad, so as I writer I am Dori Hillestad Butler.
