Chana Stiefel: Hi. My name is Chana Stiefel. People sometimes call me Chana, Cahana, China, but none of those are correct. The C-H has a throat clearing, ha sound, like challah bread or the holiday Hanukkah.
I was named for my great grandmother, whose name was Chana. It's a Hebrew biblical name, and it means charm. My last name is pronounced Stiefel, sounds like steeple. It comes from the German, and it means "boot." So, Chana Stiefel means "charming boot."
