Marilyn Nelson: Hello. My name is Marilyn Nelson. My full name is Marilyn Ray Nelson. I'm named Marilyn in honor of my father's mother, whose name was Mary, and Ray in honor of my mother's mother, whose name was Ray. My mother really liked to call my Marilyn Ray. I very seldom use my middle name, so I very seldom tell people it's derivation, but I've told you.
