Sarah Becan: Hello. My name is Sarah Becan. My dad's family emigrated to America from the Czech Republic. Our name originally had a Czech diacritic over the C and would have been pronounced BEH-CHAN When they moved to America, they dropped the accent mark and changed the pronunciation to Becon.

I've heard that a different branch of our family that ended up in Boston, kept the pronunciation BEH-CHAN and instead changed the spelling to B-E-C-H-A-N.
I've heard my name pronounced BECK-ON and BEH-KAHN and even BAY-CUN. I pronounce it BEE-CUN, like a lighthouse, but I've never minded when people get it wrong.

Given how many changes the name has gone through, what does it mean to say that how I pronounce it as the correct way?
