Dan Jolley: Hello, my name is Dan Jolley.

As far as I know, the name originated in France and was to begin with Jolie, which I am told means pretty.
Again, as far as I know, because records are scant with my family, my ancestors, they were Huguenots and they left France and went to England. And when they got to England, the English people said, "Oh yeah, your name is not Jolie any more. It's going to be Jolley."

So Jolley it became, and it's a little bit unusual spelling for Jolley.
It's not just like Jolly Christmas because it's J-O-L-L-E-Y. But it is definitely pronounced JOLLY and all my life I've heard people make jokes about Jolly Christmas and Jolly Green Giant, and I have just leaned into it. So now when someone meets me and they learn my name and they say, "Oh, are you a jolly person?" I just say, with a big grin, "Why yes, I am."
