Hilda Burgos: Hello. My name is Hilda Eunice Burgos. In Spanish, my first and middle names are pronounced ILL-da ay-oh-NEE-sah. The reason I include both names on my books is because I use both of them, although not at the same time. My mother's first name was also Hilda and my family speaks Spanish. So relatives and family friends always called her Hilda, and me, Eunice. I was born and raised in New York City. And when I started school, my teachers and school friends called me Hilda. To this day, when I meet someone who is speaking in English, like work colleagues or neighbors, I introduce myself as Hilda, pronounced the English way. But when I meet someone through my family and they're speaking in Spanish, I call myself Eunice, pronounced the Spanish way. As for my last name, Burgos, It is the name of the first city in Spain. And the proper Spanish pronunciation is BOORRR-gos, however, if that's difficult for people to say, they can say bur-GOS.
