Aunty Murphy: Hello. My name is Joy Murphy. A very Western name, but a very significant meaning to my Christian name. My parents, my mum gave birth to ten children. My three older brothers were born, and then followed on was a brother and sister who sadly died with diseases that impacted through colonization. They died as infants, and then I came along, and the nurse who delivered me said to my mum she hoped that I would be a joy to this family.

My name, Murphy, is my married name. My traditional Aboriginal name is Wandoon, W-A-N-D-O-O-N. And even that was translated by the white man to Wandin. So the family name is Wandin, W-A-N-D-I-N.
