Sherri Winston: My name is Sherry Winston, and I have a couple different stories about my name. The main one is that I was born back at a time when, before the boy bands of the day, you had these dancing harmonizing male groups. And well, I guess he wasn't a part of a group, but there was a song called Sherry Baby. "Sherry baby, Sherry baby..."(singing).

So anyway, apparently, my mom was in the hospital when that song was playing on the radio. And out of all the names, I guess, there are some things I'm glad wasn't playing because she chose the Sherry Baby song. So my whole high school and college years, I had to have people sing that song to me.

When I got into college, however, Steve Perry wrote a song called, Oh Sherry. "Oh Sherry, I'm in love" ( singing). Yeah. So then it switched and then people sang a different song to me. So my name has a musical origins. Almost no one in my family called me Sherri growing up. My dad called me Suga, which was short for sugar. My grandfather never got any kids' name right. So I was Sharon, Sherilyn. There was a lot going on with my name, but the genesis is the Sherry Baby song, and that's who I am.
