Susan Haas: This is Susan and Lexi Haas, and we are here to tell you a little bit about our last name. Lexi, and I agree we like Haas because it's short and at least in the United States it's a little unusual. Haas is most often a German surname, but its roots are actually Dutch, and it translates to hare as in the large rabbit, not the stuff growing in your head. The hardest thing about our last name is that it's often misspelled. Maybe that's because in the United States, we aren't used to seeing two A's together. It's not a very common vowel combination. People misspell it as H-A-S-S. Even when I have spelled it out for them letter by letter, H-A-A-S. It's like those two A's just don't register.
