Sonya Ballantye: Hello. My name is Sonya Ballantyne. And I never really used to like my name because it didn't sound like a very Natively name. I've actually had people ask me what kind of name is that for a Native person. But Sonya was a very strange name to have in the '80s 'cause I wanted to have a normal name like Crystal or Stacey. But I've grown to like it just because a book written by Sonya Ballantyne just sounds cool. I've learned to like my name. It's spelt with a Y and Ballantyne is said like Valentine's Day but Ballantyne's Day instead.
