Kathryn Hewitt: Hello, my name is Kathryn Hewitt. My last name, Hewitt, comes from my husband's name, David Hewitt. I was named Kathryn after my grandmother Kathryn. She came from the Ukraine and she was named after the Kathryn the Great. My grandmother lived on a farm, and her mother died when she was 15 years old. The next year, she and her teenage brother, Wassail, boarded a ship together and sailed to America. They settled in Philadelphia among a community of other immigrants. They didn't speak English and life was difficult, but they had their customs, music, dances, and one another to cheer them up. I've always considered it lucky to be named after a person who was so brave and independent to start off a new life when she was only 16 years old.
