Susanna Reich: Hello. My name is Susanna Reich. My first name is Susanna, just like in the song Oh! Susanna, and yes, it rhymes with banana. My mother named me after the character Susanna in one of her favorite operas, Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro. My last name is pronounced Reich, it's a German name, although my father's family didn't come from Germany. They came from Poland. Many Jewish families from Poland and other countries in eastern Europe have German names because they lived in Germany when the government decided that all Jews needed to have permanent last names, which believe it or not, wasn't until about 200 years ago.
