Tom Shefelman: My name is Tom Shefelman. I am an architect and illustrator of my wife's children's books.

When I was growing up in Seattle, my schoolmates often called me Tom shuffleboard. By coincidence, my son now draws storyboards for films in New York City and calls his studio, Shefelboards. My grandfather came to the United States in 1898 from what was then called Ukrainia. His name was Shefpelman which means miller of grain, but my father decided to drop the "p" and change his name to Shefelman.

Now in the language of my ancestor's I say, "Shalom" which is a Jewish greeting or farewell that means peace.
