Mary Downing Hahn: Hi, my name is Mary Downing-Hahn. I was born Mary Elizabeth Downing. My dad was English, and according to him somewhere back in the family one of my ancestors was a foundling. In other words, a child found on a street corner somewhere without a last name. Because he was found near Downing Street, he was given the name Downing. So, I have to tell you, I'm not a genuine Downing but I like the name anyway. That was why I decided to use it as my middle name when I began writing because, of course, the Hahn comes from my husband.
